Wendy and the KnitNuts just love to make things! We are a group of women that are addicted to knitting and crochet, and sometimes other arts and crafts too. Our wardrobes just can't take any more! Our combined years of experience, and Wendy's formal qualifications mean we can knit almost anything! Jumpers, scarves, hats, mats, blankets, tea cosies, animals anything else you care to mention. Most is hand knitted or crocheted with the occasional machine knit thrown in (we'll always tell you), and many items are completely unique. Most of our items are priced not to reflect the work that these lovely ladies have put in, but to give our customers an opportunity to buy something made locally with love. Hand-knitted means just that - the item is knitted by hand, assembled by hand, and the final prep is done by hand. A straight forward adult jumper without intricate detail and a speedy knitter, will probably take around two weeks to knit - probably 40 hours in total! The bigger or more intricate it is, the longer the time taken. Machine knits are knitted on manual machines - we still have to knit backwards and forwards, cast on and off by hand (usually), operate manual patterns. They can be assembled on the machine, but almost all items are hand finished by 'blocking' - a process that can take a couple of hours and ensures the yarn is soft and stitches are even. These machines aren't like the electronic ones used by professional manufacturers. An experienced knitter can knit an adult jumper in about 10 hours. The prices allow us to buy more yarn - as yet there is no rehab clinic for addicted KnitNuts - and purchasing from us will, we hope, keep everyone happy.
